With lithium ion battery technologies being advanced, designed and manufactured in Asia, a new US “alliance” of “leading US battery and advanced materials companies” and “one of the country’s largest national laboratories” is being formed to ensure advanced batteries are designed and manufactured in the US, so US companies aren’t dependent on foreigners.

ACMA moots tightening the rules covering VoIP phone numbers.

If you live out the back of Wup-Wup and want a CBD phone number that's no problem with today's VoIP services but the ACMA says that geographic phone numbers should reflect the location of the service to which they relate. It's also unhappy with a number of other aspects of telephone numbering for VoIP services and is canvassing changing the rules.

Australian emergency callers will be answered by a recording

Callers to Australia's 000 emergency number will be answered by a recording rather than a human operator, a move which the Australian Communications and Media Authority says will reduce the number of spurious calls that 000 operators have to handle.

Carbonates found on Mars, increases chance of past life

The NASA Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has found carbonate minerals on the planet Mars. Its discovery by U.S. and French scientists is now prompting planetary astronomers to rethink their theories that Mars once had a primarily global acidic environment (which is not very conducive to life).
